"Land of Wine and Food" Northern California Adventure

Tucked away in the northern corner of California, the Shasta Cascade Region demonstrates its life and beauty through the diverse landscape of mountains, forests, rivers and lakes. These characteristics are echoed in the abundance and quality of the local cuisine, gourmet restaurants, agriculture and wineries throughout the region.

  • Day 1 - Arrive at the Sacramento Airport, pick up an Enterprise Rent-a Car and begin your journey to the Shasta Cascade Countryside. Your first stop will be at the Olive Pit in Corning, the olive capital of the world, where you will savor olive tasting at its best. Continue north to Redding to check in to the Bridgehouse B&B, located on historic Riverside Drive in downtown Redding, offering a beautiful view of the Sacramento River. Your host will arrange a private tour and tasting at two local wineries – Burnsini Vineyards and Matson Vineyards.

Your evening will start off with a scrumptious meal and wine tasting at the Vintage Wine Bar & Restaurant, Redding’s first and only wine bar. An evening stroll on the world famous Sundial Bridge makes a nice end to the perfect evening.
  • Day 2 - Start your adventure with a visit to Turtle Bay Exploration Park and McConnell Arboretum, and lunch at Turtle Bay Cafe along the Sacramento River. Continue your journey north through the Sacramento River Canyon to the city of Mt. Shasta, where you will enjoy the magnificent volcanic peak of Mount Shasta towering 14,162 feet high. After checking in to the Mount Shasta Resort, where you will spend the night in a private chalet complete with a bottle of champagne and two souvenir glasses, you can enjoy a round of golf on a professionally designed 18-hole course, or indulge yourself in a spa treatment at the Sacred Mountain Spa.

Other options include shopping in downtown Mt. Shasta and browsing through a variety of art galleries and bookstores. After a full day of adventure, you will be treated to dinner prepared at Café Maddalena in Dunsmuir.
  • Day 3 - Your adventure begins by heading east on Hwy. 89 where the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway offers outstanding scenery. Your first stop will be McArthur Burney Falls State Park, where you will be inspired by the 129-foot Burney Falls, one of the most beautiful in the state. Your next adventure will be a personal tour of the new winery and tasting room at the Anselmo Seven Hills Land and Cattle Company, and a free pass to visit Lassen Volcanic National Park, which includes a visit to the new Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor's Center. Other options include a visit to the Wild Horse Sanctuary for wild horse viewing. You will unwind at the Weston House B&B, which offers great views of Lassen Peak, and includes a bountiful gourmet breakfast.
  • Day 4 - Today you will enjoy a scenic drive along historic Hwy. 99, traveling to Chico through “orchard country,” where summer affords several opportunities to stop at local fruit stands. Arriving in Chico, you can start off by grabbing a quick lunch at a delicious “taco wagon” or Sierra Nevada Brewery. After lunch, visit famous Orient and Flume Art Glass or enjoy the afternoon at Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, a beautiful three-story, 26-room Victorian house museum.

Then head up the hill to Paradise, taking in a incredible Butte Creek Canyon view to Chapelle de L’Artiste for a soothing, elegant period of rest and splendor. You’ll head back to Chico for dinner at the Red Tavern for a delicious meal where only local, seasonal and sustainable products are used. After dinner, head back up the hill to Chapelle de L’Artiste for wine and chocolates in the new wine cave with Cap’n and Lady M.
